The 10 Essentials: Johan Lindeberg

Swedish designer Johan Lindeberg’s got one of the toughest looks in the game—biker jackets, black denim jeans, mighty facial hair—but he’ll also indulge in softer things, like silk scarves. “I enjoy a little bit of a flamboyant twist,” says Lindeberg. “Maybe because I look quite strong with my beard.”

This year, Lindeberg was named one of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers for his most personal line yet, BLK DNM. “I don’t have to listen to anyone and I can do what I like,” he said of the label. “I think I have that privilege at this point in my career.” From white roses (he once sent 350 of ‘em to a girl he liked) to, well, black denim, Lindeberg’s necessities reflect that I-do-whatever-the-f*ck-I-want attitude. It’s time for a lesson from the fashion world’s biggest rebel.

Johan Lindeberg’s BLK DNM is an extension of the designer’s own downtown cool aesthetic, where white DB blazers mingle with skinny black jeans but Lindeberg’s keen eye doesn’t just stop at denim and dinner jackets, as evidenced by his latest creative outlet - photography. In addition to shooting his brand’s look books, Lindeberg is taking his new love out of the studio to wherever his travels may take him.
