It’s a match made in #menswear heaven. Ashley James of denim brand Ruell and Ray and Billy Moore of accessory line Cause and Effect connected after being written about in the same blog and soon discovered a shared passion for crafting unique, handmade items that reside somewhere between the artisinal and the essential in menswear. The duo took to the road, selling their wares at appointments together and soon Art & Survival was born.
“The best way to wear color is just as an accent. This blue really looks good against a new knit tie. It’s just a conversation piece, just an accent of color. And at $15, it’s a smart investment.”—GQ creative director Jim Moore
We asked two menswear obsessives—The GQ Eye’s Sean Hotchkiss and Lawrence Schlossman of Sartorially Inclined, How To Talk To Girls At Parties, and Park & Bond (did we say obsessive?)—to recap what’s been a standout year in men’s fashion. From bloggers to Bastian, and, of course, The Gosling, here are the best #menswear moments of 2011.
Our first-ever pop-up shop in partnership with our friends at Park & Bond is finally open. Get down to the Meatpacking District to check out our picks for the Best Stuff of the Year, plus some stylish threads hand-picked by GQ’s editors as well as the P&B team. Come holiday season, everyone is looking for a dress shirt to give the men in their lives. Tell your loved ones to look no further than this style from Calvin Klein… and if they’re looking for other gift tips, to let Jim Moore do their shopping for them.
Ready to bulk up? Do so without making yourself look like you have a gut. Jim Moore advises, “the pattern will add a bit of presence to your torso—the fact that it’s trimmed and not too bulky is the saving grace.” Check out this and more of our editor’s favorite things in this month’s edition of GQ Selects.
