Their friendship and business were kindled by a longing for the beach. Josh Rosen, Morgan Collett, and Colin Tunstall, all recent transplants to New York, found each other as beach-types tend to do and wondered: Why wasn’t there a place in the city to chill with other surfer dudes? Enter Saturdays Surf NYC, the clothing-coffee-surf shop the trio created in 2009, which instantly became a hangout for fashion kids, caffeine addicts and, yes, fellow wave riders. Not long after opening they were putting out full lines, and in 2011 GQ creative director Jim Moore called Saturdays “the coolest store in America right now.” This year, GQ named them one of the Best New Menswear Designers in America.
Surrounded by a 360-degree view of the city in their spacious new Tribeca office (which, in true surfer style they sometimes cruise around on skateboards), they told us about their passion for the ocean, clothing, and coffee.
“Anything with the ampersand from the Saturdays NYC guys. While I wouldn’t advise wearing it all together, the symbol is a clever way to celebrate the collaboration as well as just being a cool graphic—something the trio does so well in their main collection. The navy felted hat and sweatshirt are tops on my list.”

There’s no stopping Saturdays Surf this year and frankly we wouldn’t expect anything less from one of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America. The gents behind the line, Morgan Collett, Colin Tunstall, and Josh Rosen, have already opened two more locations of their lifestyle store - in Japan and a second in NYC - and as if that wasn’t a big enough undertaking the trio is now getting into the publishing game.
They’re here: In our sixth annual search for the future of menswear, as selected by editor-in-chief Jim Nelson, creative director Jim Moore, and GQ’s fashion team, we present the six designers you need to know. Prepare to start salivating over the limited-edition collection they’ll be creating in conjunction with Gap. Learn more about each of the designers here.
From GQ creative director Jim Moore: “Saturdays NYC is the coolest store in America right now. This SoHo surf shack was conceived by three not-so-laid-back guys on a mission: to create a space for those living, working, and surfing around the big city. The inventory is dominated by Saturdays-designed favorites like striped surf trunks and small-collar shirts; it’s also well churned with the boys’ favorite wet suits and surfboards. Get all the Saturdays gear at its Web site, or come visit this one-of-a-kind hut. You’ll have your best Saturday yet, no matter what day it is.”
